  • Twitter is apparently experimenting with a new pop-up message telling users to reshare tweets.
  • The pop-up appears when you attempt to take a screenshot of a tweet.
  • It seems to be part of a wider effort to increase direct engagement for creators on the platform.

In order to discourage users from taking scats and sharing them to other social media platforms, they are taking measures.

In what appears to be a limited testing, the platform is showing pop-up messages asking users to share a message when they take a picture. Jane Manchun Wong, an app sleuth, and Matt Navarra, a social media consultant, spotted two buttons in the message that could be used to share or copy a link.

It's not clear when the new pop-ups began showing up for some, but it's obvious that it's a way of telling people to not share content in a way that doesn't bring traffic to the service. The testing is only visible on the iPad version of the app.

The post will be updated as soon as we get a response from the social network.

One can see cross-posting from one platform to another on TikTok. TikTok watermarks videos that were originally posted on the platform in order to keep its brand visible on other sites. Meta is constantly introducing features that are very similar to TikTok.

According to the latest development, there is a slightly different approach to addressing cross-posting. Engagement for creators is undermined by this behavior.

Since it's difficult to make money from screenshots, it makes sense for them to be discouraged. Here's hoping that it doesn't block the entire thing.
