Sending Starlink internet systems to Ukraine has been costly to the company, according to the CEO.

The billionaire responded to a report by the Financial Times about "catastrophic" outages of the satellite internet service by saying that it had cost him $80 million.

Musk accused the Financial Times of faking claims that Starlink service was paid for.

He said that what is happening on the battlefield is classified.

Insider made a request for comment from the company on Saturday.

In the early months of the war, Mykhailo Fedorov urged Musk to give Starlink systems toUkraine. In a matter of hours, the billionaire said the systems were active and more would be on the way.

In July, Fedorov told Insider that there was still a need for more Starlink systems.

Fedorov did not say how many Starlink systems had been damaged, but he praised the service.

According to the June all-hands meeting slideshow, the company has delivered 15000 Starlink kits to Ukraine.

The Washington Post reported that the US Agency for International Development paid $2 million for 1,333 terminals.
