About 13,000 electric vehicles are being recalled due to a loose fastening that could affect drivers ability to control the car. The recall affects nearly every vehicle Rivian has produced this year, as well as the electric delivery vans it's building for Amazon. Rivian delivered over 12,000 vehicles in the first 3 quarters of the year.

The front upper control arm and steering knuckle may not have been properly fastened. It could cause a loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash. According to the safety report, drivers with affected vehicles may see a change in steering performance or feel.

Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe wrote in an email to customers that it was important not to minimize the risks involved in the recall. The nut can be loosened in rare circumstances. It is rare, but it does reinforce why we are acting with such caution.

Rivian did not find any injuries related to the defect after investigating seven reports. The EV maker says it will make sure the steering knucklefasteners are secured in the affected vehicles. Rivian recalled about 500 R1T electric pickup in May due to a faulty air bag that may fail to work when detecting a child in the front passenger seat.
