Ukrainian officials have said that they may have sabotaged the bridge to spite Putin on his 70th birthday.
Russian officials said that a train crossing the bridge caused it to collapse after a fuel tank exploded.
The government was ordered by Putin to create a commission to look into the cause of the bridge's collapse.
The source of the explosion is not yet known, but an official from the peninsula blamed the country.
In a Telegram post, the chairman of the State Council of Crimea said that Ukrainian vandals got their paws on the bridge.
"Now they have something to be proud of, in 23 years of their economic activity, they did not build anything deserving of interest in Crimea." They were able to damage the roadbed of the bridge.
The bridge collapse has not been directly claimed by the Ukrainian government.

The bridge collapse may have been linked to Putin's 70th birthday.
Putin opened a portion of the bridge in the middle of last year.

The bridge is 12 miles long and was built after Russia annexed the peninsula. According to The Guardian, it was a critical route for carrying military equipment and troops to Russia.
