Users who don't own a car tend to use the feature on their phones. They're often greeted with a home screen/dashboard with various cards and controls at the bottom. According to reports, the dashboard is going to be gone soon.
Earlier this week, it was reported that the Assistant Driving Mode dashboard would be shutting down on November 21, but that has since changed, as the Maps card that sat atop the dashboard will no longer be available. The Driving mode within the Maps app can be accessed when you start driving and is said to be the best experience for car owners.
In June, the search engine giant pulled the plug on the operating system for phones. A built-in mobile driving experience was provided by the move, which favored the use of the Google Assistant. Since the switch was only accessible via voice, not many people were fans of it.
The feature launched as a replacement for Android Auto for phone screens is being replaced by the same thing.

There are some similarities between the Assistant Driving Mode and the Maps Driving Mode. It has a grid for quick access to messages, calls, and a selection of apps. When you're tied up, there's quick access to assistant.
The company seems to be doing more of the same lately. It makes sense since most people just use the maps.
