There will be a big phone in 2022. It has been moving in a single direction for a long time. Most flagship smartphone screens are between six and seven inches.

The ideal screen size was four inches. He pointed out that it was hard to get your hand around the phone. Nobody is going to buy that. The first Note was released by the company. Some people were disgusted by the 5.3-inch display. It was too big for pockets and hands.

Review of Apple’s iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro: They’re leaning into it

Those comments have aged. That can be done with technology. The four new versions of the iPhone 14 are in two different sizes. The gain in the screen-to-body ratio is one of the things that got us here. The footprint required to support displays has shrunk as displays have gotten bigger.

I have been using the regular iPhones for the last few weeks. I can barely wrap my hand around it. It is simple to use with one hand. We've come a long way since the days of a big phone.

6.1 inches is a sweet spot for me. It's a good size screen in a small footprint. Your mileage may be different as always. The death of the Mini was marked by the Apple lineup. It's reasonable to want a smaller phone, but the SE will have to fill that role.

I have switched to the 14 Plus for daily use. I can't wrap my hand around it right away. It's more of a mixed bag if you use it in one hand. Checking emails, doom scrolling through social media, and other things can be done in this manner with face unlock enabled.

It gets more complicated if you want to respond to an email. I can contort my body to select the message, but it will take both hands to type it. Maybe you have a way to work around the world of voice computing?

There is a trade-off in this situation. The 6.7-inch size is perfect for video. It's nice to have all that screen as a camera. I moderated a panel at a Brooklyn bookstore this week, and it was a great size to serve as a sort of makeshift teleprompter. Those sorts of advantages start to make themselves known quickly when you move from 6.1 to 6.7 inches.

The Plus has a better battery than the 14. The Plus is rated at 26 hours of video playing time. I went to bed at 50% battery and woke up at 27%. It's possible to make it through a full 24 hours. Not having to worry about finding a charging station during the day is nice.

There is a lot to be said for not having to worry about a phone dying on you when you are out in the world.

The 14 Plus is in the middle of the line. The entry level model is not the most expensive. It is close to the former and similar in many respects. It is actually less heavy than the 14 Pro. I noticed that immediately, having used the Pro a bit. That is a big deal for a large phone. It is less expensive than the Pro and the Pro Max.

When you want a new iPhone, the 14 is the device you get, but don't need all the bells and whistles. The 14 pro is on the cutting edge of technology. The 14 pro max is a kitchen sink device. The Plus is for the person who likes the larger screen but doesn't need all of the frills. If you want to find out which is right for you, try them on for size at a brick and mortar store.

The regular 14 is the most appropriate for the most users. If you want better photos and a faster chip, you should upgrade to the pro. It makes a big difference if the screen size is your main concern.
