According to Rolling Stone, witnesses are being asked if former President Donald Trump kept sensitive government documents at any of his other properties.
The outlet on Friday cited two people familiar with the matter who said federal investigators are asking witnesses if the former president had a habit of moving classified documents from Mar-a-Lago to other Trump properties.
An anonymous source told Rolling Stone that they wanted to know if this went beyond Mar-a-Lago.
According to the outlet, the questions directed to multiple witnesses in recent months could indicate the DOJ thinks Trump's shoddy handling of important documents went beyond his Mar-a-Lago residence.
The Justice Department and representatives for Trump did not respond to the request for comment.
Several former Trump associates have been questioned by the FBI as part of its investigation into Trump's retention of highly sensitive documents. According to Rolling Stone, investigators have zeroed in on Trump's New York and New Jersey properties in order to find additional documents.
According to the New York Times, the DOJ believes that Trump still has documents from his time in the White House that he hasn't returned. The outlet states that Trump and his legal team have taken a combative approach to the Justice Department.
The legal saga has had a positive effect on Trump's businesses according to the president.
During a speech on Wednesday, Trump said that Mar-a-Lago had received $5 billion of free publicity.
