The Supreme Court posed for a picture after the arrival of its newest justice.

The group photo shows a glimpse of the nine justices together. The chief justice is usually in the middle of the picture. The longest-serving justice, Clarence Thomas, sat to the right of the chief justice.

Jackson heard her first oral argument this week as the Supreme Court began its new term.

Over the next several months, the justices will grapple with politically divisive issues concerning race, voting rights, free speech, among others, in potential decisions that could move the country to the right. Last term, the conservative majority reversed federal abortion rights, expanded gun rights, and strengthened religious rights.
