It would prefer if you gave it some credit rather than suck it up.
Some users are getting a pop-up asking them to share a link to their account instead of a picture. Jane Manchun Wong spotted a new pop-up that appeared immediately after a user took a post to the internet. Some users are seeing different versions of the same thing. The copy link pop-up was sent to some employees at The Verge.
A request for more information on the pop-up was not immediately responded to by the company. Screenshots of social media posts are reposted on the platform, but they also spread to all corners of the internet that aren't on the platform. The platform is losing out on engagement because of the images that are being used. Clicking a direct link won't suffice if you want to visit Twitter after seeing a screenshot.
One of the ways that the company is trying to grow users is through the prompt to share a message. Potential new users will be able to try out the service without an account. In September, Wong noted that the social network was experimenting with a prompt to remind users that they can share their messages with anyone.
