After months of leaks and finally confirmation of its design in August, I became enamored with the new phone from the company. After years of being stagnant, it looked like it was finally time for Google to compete with the big boys. I had to remind myself of the track record of the search engine giant.
For as long as we've had the phone, there's always been a flaw. The Pixel 5 went mid-range, giving us the same basic internals as a $500 phone, even though the battery was terrible. The software in the Pixel 6 is buggy because it is the first attempt at a consumer level processor.
Despite the bugs, Google has finally delivered on its promise of a proper flagship phone and did so with a very competitive price, one of the best photography systems in the mobile market, and of course, Tensor's artificial intelligence. instant voice typing, translation, and applying its secret sauce to your photos are just some of the things that the Google Assistant is able to do. Even though no phone is perfect, the Google Pixel 6 is close to being the best phone on the market.
The Pixel 6 was unveiled by the company on October 19th. The phone went on sale in a number of countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, Ireland, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. The phone was launched in several countries.

There are no plans for the Pixel 6 to launch in South America or India, just as the Pixel 5a did last summer. If it continues to sell well, we could see it launch in more countries throughout the year 2022.
The starting price of the device is $599, with 128 gigabytes of storage and support for sub6 5G. It's possible to get a model of the Pixel 6 with 512GB of storage for $699, as well as the one with 5G support. Considering how much storage 4K videos can take up, it's a good idea to consider how much storage you need for your phone. You will likely get one for less with the best deals.
The Pixel 7 and the Pixel 7 Pro were introduced at the Made by Google event. The new phones are the official follow-up to the previous ones. ThePixel 7 series will be offered in more countries than thePixel 6. You can find some great deals here.

The design of the Pixel 6 was an open secret for the better part of 2021, so much so that in August, Google finally gave up on trying to quash the leaks and just revealed the design and color options. There are a number of reasons why the design is head-turning, from the two-tone coloring of the back panels to that big camera bar across the top to the flat 6.4-inch screen up front.
The screen is 3mm on the top and sides while being 5mm at the bottom. The bottom of the S21 has a thickness of about 3mm.

If you've been spoiled by curved screens and "infinity" edge-to-edge screens, you may notice the difference in the screen size. But, of course, once you slap on a great case, you won't see them, and the slightly thicker bezels mean you have fewer chances of accidentally touching the screen.

We have a 6.4-inch screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1920 x 1200. I'm okay with the resolution and the refresh rate on the 6 but you'll notice the 500Hz max brightness if you're outside. The screen always looks good indoors when you're in shade, cloud cover, or the sun is about to set. If you're going to be outside with this phone for a long period of time, you might want to look for a screen that's in the 900-nit range.
The color range on the display is vibrant and vivid, and the content on the display is amazing even for darker shows. Alex Dobie experienced a little lag in Automatic brightness on his display, but it performed normally on my display, and I had no complaints with its results outside the dark rooms. At least there's a Quick Setting for it, because I wish the screen could automatically turn on the extra dim when I push the sliders down.
There is a first for the Pixel line. I'm inclined to disagree with Nick Sutrich who said that it's one of the only things he dislikes in the review. The sensor here works just as well as the in-screen sensor on the phones. I think the setup of the fingerprint recording may be a little confusing to some people, as the recording dot is moved around the sensor's range of view as you move your finger. It's worked better for me than the S21's Ultrasonic Sensor, even though it's not set up yet. Your mileage may vary as a result of fingerprints.

I'm very happy for the fact that the Pixel 6 gets a black bumper instead of the gold and silver one of the Pro models. The back camera bar with the black bumper gives a separation and contrast to the non-black ones. The accent pops against the backplate.
The backplates curve to give the phone a more rounded look and feel in the hand. The Pixel 6 can pick up smudges and oils from your hand, but it has a fair grip on your hand. It can't be said when you put it on a table with a tilt. I highly recommend at least a clear case for the Pixel 6 to avoid scratches on dirty desks or, heaven forbid, it sliding right off a table to the floor.
The camera bar on the back of the phone makes it one of the most unique phones on the market. If you're not careful, thebump will catch your fingers, table edges, and pocket hems if you're not careful.
Because the bar goes across the phone, the Pixel 6 sits at a slight angle for better looking at social media. The module itself is fetching and we'll get to how those cameras perform a little later. There are many cases that will turn it into a typical rectangular module while adding extra protection.
The last note on the design is buttons. The volume rocker is not separated from the power button by a special texturing. The space between the buttons is carved out in a half-pipe, which tells you if you need to move your finger up or down.
Pressing and holding the power button will bring up Assistant, not the power menu, but you can change that in the settings. If you still need a quicker way to summon Assistant, you can use the gear icon to invoke it.
This is the first phone that runs the first system on a chip that was designed by the search giant. We would expect to see a lot of bugs and glitchiness out of a brand new chip. Tensor has been butter smooth more than 99% of the time, and that half a percent had to do with app data that was mishandled.
Most of my multitasking hasPukiWikiPukiWikiPukiWiki, and for the most partPukiWikiPukiWiki hasPukiWiki 8 gigabytes of memory. While I was taking a 4K video, memory management did not shut down the music service. It's not a big upgrade, but previous owners know that memory management hasn't been great on many different models.
I've played my games with no lag or problems. I didn't experience any problems when I popped back and forth between the four apps on my phone. The only thing I have seen that has slowed me down is withAndroid Auto on my screen, but the phone is still smooth with wiredAndroid Auto.
General performance is only one part of the problem when it comes to the performance of the products. It was claimed that the extra on-device artificial intelligence oomph from the company would allow it to do complex operations, like instantly transcribing and translate videos or having words appear on the screen.
It was possible to have a voice typing feature on the Moto X, but it was hard to get any accuracy or speed. Some voice services still have trouble with accuracy, like the voice-to-text engine on the GALAXY WATCH 4. When I switched back to Gboard, I tried it for the first time and kept using it.
Voice typing on the Pixel 6 is instant and addicting.
Seven years of phones and a decade of barking orders have been combined into voice typing that knows my accent and most of the words I use. I could get up in the morning and just tap the mic and talk. Punctuation is very easy to use, and you can even use some characters on the phone.
I didn't have a lot of time to use the Instant Translation features that let you play an interpreter. Alex Dobie and Tshaka Armstrong covered it in their video reviews of the two phones.
There's also a custom image signal processor module that can be used in Tensor to speed up the processing of photos. We'll get to it soon, but we want to show than tell, so keep reading.
Material Design (opens in new tab) and Android 12 help put it over the top with their fast and fluid performance. Material You is designed to help take the inconsistency and free-range nature ofAndroid design up until now and make it more cohesive as well as bring us a greater level of personalization.
The first phone to launch with the full monty of Material Design is the Pixel 6 and it features a redesign of the systemUI with larger touch targets in the settings and Quick settings.
Material You is my inner themer's dream.
Material You all comes together on the home screen, and I can't help but cry. The tears did flow when I started flipping through the wallpaper. It's almost perfect, color-matching is almost perfect, and the way it extends to the icons on the home screen is gorgeous.
Material You widgets are rolling out to generations of phones right now through app updates, while Dynamic color is a part of Material that is being released to the rest of the world.

These fun shapes and pops of color bring a new life to thePixel Launcher, which has been a little boring these last couple of years. The tinted icons are nice, but they only cover the system apps and not the other applications. If Icon Pack Studio can do it, so can you.
It's easier to stay on top of your privacy and data with the new permission manager and security hub. The Security Hub is a way to make sure that the various layers of security are updated and that your account is secured as well. Harish Jonnalagadda covered these and all of the other features of the operating system in his lengthy review.
Quality-of-life features, the little things that you don't know you need, are the best of the Pixel features. Call Screening is one of my favorite features of the Pixel, and it's possible to use it to stop all calls from being made. If you use a phone with Call Screening, you'll never want to use a phone from either of the two companies again.
Another upgraded feature this year isn't so much a visible feature as it is a promise: the Pixel 6 will get at least three (likely four) years of system updates. If you treat this phone right, it can last you half a decade. The longer you can hold onto a phone before you have to upgrade, the better it is for the planet and your wallet, so I'm happy to seegoogle raising the bar aftersamsung went to 3 years of system updates

ThePixel 6 won't be winning any battery awards, but you will be able to get through the day with it. I was able to push it to 34 hours with 7.5 hours screen on time despite the fact that I only had 25% battery left.
The screen and the battery are the two biggest battery drainers in a phone. Good news on the screen front, since the screen of the Pixel 6 is 500 nits brightness, it won't drain your battery faster than an S21 Ultra would.
I am happy to report that even when using the camera for a half-hour, I didn't see much of a battery dip. I didn't experience any overheating of the Pixel 6 during photo-taking sessions or over an hour of my match-three game. The overheating issues we've seen on previous Pixels seem to have been fixed on the new one.
We have been waiting for cameras for a long time.

I've been very pleased with everything I've shot on the Pixel 6 and I think it's because it doesn't lack the telephoto sensor that the Pixel 6 Pro does. From action shots on Kilamanjaro's bumpy Jeeps to filming the new fireworks at the Magic Kingdom, the film shot everything like a champ.
The Pixel 6 has the best smartphone camera experience I've seen to date.
Now, we expect the still photos to be amazing on a Pixel phone, since it's been upgraded from the 12MP camera sensors used in the last few years. We've got a 50MP main shooter and a 12MP ultra-wide here, and while I wish we'd gotten a bigger upgrade on that ultra-wide, it's good for social media shots while you're on vacation.

Whether I was window-shopping, trying to capture the details on the tree of life, or trying to take firework pictures where they're actually in focus, the Pixel 6 never failed me. It was easy to get my shots off quickly; even most Night Sight shots and Portrait shots didn't slow me down much.

All of the raw data from the camera sensors gets leveled up again when it's run through the computation of the photography's image quality. They help clarify details and correct lighting issues, and now that Real Tone has been added, they won't try to lighten the skin of people of color.
Real Tone makes sure that the cameras are as realistic as possible with their lighting and color balance. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to give this much testing as a white girl living alone 1000 miles from my karaoke king, but fortunately my coworkers could give it a fair shake and show that this camera does a much better job with deeper skin tones.
The magic continues even after you take the photo. It has been a long time coming, but a new editing tool called Magic Eraser is now available in the Photos section of the website. Magic Eraser allows me to remove the people in the background of my photo and replace them with similar colors and texture.
It's also great for removing photobombers, distraction in the background, and even stains on a shirt if you're willing to zoom in and circle them one by one. It's still early days, but so far, it seems as if it's magic.
There was a change from photos to video by the search engine. There are amazing videos that are well-stabilized, easy to keep in focus, and are just as vivid and fun as the still photos look, thanks to the Computational Photography sweet sauce.
At the top of this section, I mentioned the shaking of the jeep. I took videos on that Jeep that don't bob up and down even though that's what the truck was doing; the standard video stabilization and secret sauce processing gives us great video even when zooming in on subjects that could be 100 feet away.
The only dim spot for an otherwise gleaming camera system is the zoom, which is only up to 7x for the Pixel 6 and 30x for the others. The 6 Pro maxes out at 20x, which is what the zoom shot over 20x usually looks like. To the Pro's credit, the 20x zoom shots look better than their competitors, but it's not worth the $300 upgrade from the Pixel 6.
The image is the first of three.
Night Sight is quicker and better in the Pixel 6's cameras, but if you're prone to shaking hands, you'll want to turn it on in the bottom right corner. Night Sight worked for me even with my shakes, which is something I couldn't say for my other two phones.
The S21 has a telephoto lens, a swimming pool's worth of helpful features, and more customization options.
The phone is close to the Pixel 6 in price and features faster charging. ThePixel 6's new camera sensors are just as good as the Hasselblad cameras on the OnePlus 9. The OnePlus 9 has a better screen with a higher refresh rate, but the Pixel 6 has a better screen with a lower refresh rate.
If you're looking for a smaller phone but don't want to pay more for a bigger one, the smallest iPhone 13 is a good choice.
If you do, you should purchase this.
If you buy this, you should not.
If you've been waiting all year for a phone that's powerful, looks great, and has the best software on the market, you're in for a treat. The video quality on the Pixel 6 is better than that of Apple's products. It is possible to make a photo look better without slowing down your phone.
All of this for $600 seems like Google decided to start off with Black Friday pricing, and it's little wonder that many of the models are already sold out. If you've ever wanted to try a Pixel, this is the one to do, and if you've been burned before, it might be time to try again. I know that I'm at the beginning of a great friendship with my Kinda CoralPixel 6, and I need some nice red cases to protect it for the holidays.
