A San Antonio police officer was fired after shooting a driver who was eating a Mcdonald's sandwich in his car.
James Brennand was a new officer in the department. He initially said he shot at the teen's car after it hit him. Body camera footage didn't support his story.
The video showed Brennand on an unrelated call when he spotted a maroon vehicle in a Mcdonald's parking lot and decided it had recently fled from him.
Brennand opened the driver's side door after he called for help. According to a police report, Cantu and the female passenger were inside the car.
The person said to get out of the car. Cantu was eating a Mcdonald's burger.
What's the reason? Cantu asked as his vehicle moved backwards. Brennand fired his gun many times.
You can watch the video below.
It is not clear from the footage if the teen put the car into reverse or if he took his foot off the brake.
Cantu was wounded in the shooting. According to KENS-TV, he is currently in a hospital.
A passenger was not hurt.
Cantu was accused of attacking a police officer.
The Bexar County District Attorney's Office reviews evidence from the shooting and can take up to a year to make a decision.
