The Indianapolis Colts won one of the craziest games in history, sleepwalking through three and a half quarters before waking late in the fourth and overtime to beat the Denver Broncos. The seven field goals in a game in which both teams scored only by way of field goal is an NFL record according to research by the sports bureau.

Gilmore, the Colts' defensive player of the year, made the night's two biggest plays, rewarding the Colts' faith in him with an intercept late in regulation and a win in overtime.

Despite being a mess, the Colts are back in the thick of the race for the division title.

The results did not change despite the Colts making wholesale changes to their offensive line. The Colts didn't open holes in the running game. Matt Ryan had 21 sacks for the season. It's difficult to see how the Colts will improve after Week 5. The rookies were moved to tackle by the Colts. There are a lot of moves with little to show.

This week, everything you need.

Ryan's struggles continued, and perhaps worsened, given the absence of running back Jonathan Taylor. Ryan has six for the season after throwing two more picks. The veteran looked overwhelmed in the second quarter when he threw an ill-advised pick up to a young man. Ryan threw the ball right to Sterns, who was in the middle of the field. Ryan led the Colts to a tying field goal in the fourth quarter, but he needs to start quicker.

Alec Pierce had a coming-out performance with eight catches for 81 yards, including three catches on the tying drive in the fourth quarter. Ryan's go-to receiver was the second-round pick from Cincinnati and he was targeted nine times. A concern about Pierce's game was his ability to make tough catches in traffic, but he made a number of diving catches throughout the game, which changed the complexion of the Colts' young wide-receiving corps.

Ryan now has 11 turnovers on the season, which is an underrated stat. Since the 1970 merger, that's the most by a player.

The next game is against the Jags.

Denver Broncos

If people want to know when the Broncos used up their preseason expectations, they can watch the overtime loss to the Colts on Thursday night.

The goodwill the Broncos brought into the season after the trade for quarterback Russell Wilson has been lost by the team. The Broncos' defense has been dragged down by the Broncos' offense. The capper was a failed pass play with Wilson in the shotgun on fourth-and-inches.

The Broncos have scored 16 or fewer points in four of their five games. There are too many penalty flags, missed blocks, dropped passes, and a general look of discomfort when they have the ball. The Broncos are now 2-2 with two inexplicable late-game decisions from their coach.

The Broncos rode a dominant defense to their last Super Bowl win, so the defensive effort Thursday night shouldn't be overlooked. The Broncos have a touchdown problem on the other side of the ball. They were the last team in the league to score in goal-to-go situations. In the first half, there was only 103 yards of offense. The first half was not any better. The team is close to a breakthrough, but it doesn't look like it.

Wilson was the team's leading running back in the fourth quarter of the Week 4 loss to the Raiders. The virtues of a running game have been extolled by Hackett. The first game since Javonte Williams went to injured reserve was not what anyone had in mind. The Broncos struggled even in their usual two-tight end grouping. They had 54 yards rushing at the end of the third quarter, 23 of those by Wilson, and 18 of Wilson's rushing yards were on one play.

Wilson is not performing well. Wilson was not at his best on the Broncos' first possession of the game, which was inside the Colts' 20-yard line. John Elway once said it would take him about a half a season to feel comfortable in the Broncos offense, but Wilson looks less comfortable now than he did in the season opener.

There were many injuries for the Broncos, who lost running back Javonte Williams for the season and outside linebacker Randy Gregory for several weeks. Garett Bolles, the left tackle, was carted off in the fourth quarter because of a leg injury, and other players did not finish the game because of injuries.

The Broncos have only scored one offensive point in the third quarter this season. The 49ers quarterback stepped out of the back of the end zone on a Jimmy Garoppolo safety to give the Broncos two points.

The next game is at the San Diego Padres. On Monday, October 17th.
