Herschel Walker became the Republican Party's pick in the state's Senate race, despite criticism from Georgia's GOP lieutenant governor.

Duncan said that Republicans needed a senator in the Senate to take control of the upper chamber. He criticized Walker as a GOP Senate candidate.

Who was the best leader was not asked. Who had the best resume was not asked. Republicans looked to see who Donald Trump supported. He became our nominee because he was a famous football player.

Duncan said he wouldn't vote for Walker despite having spent the last decade "championing some of the most conservative policies."

Herschel Walker hasn't earned my respect or my vote so I'm not voting for him.

I'm a part of hundreds of thousands of other Republicans in Georgia. We don't know what to think. He said that they don't have a place to go right now.

A spokesman for Walker and the candidate's legal representative didn't reply to Insider's request for comment.

Following a report from The Daily Beast, Walker has beenfending off a scandal. The mother of one of Walker's children claimed that Walker paid for her to have an abortion after she got pregnant.

The woman shared a receipt from the abortion clinic with an image of a get-well card and a $700 check that was signed by Walker. Walker said on Monday that he sends money to a lot of people, denying that he paid a woman to get an abortion.

Duncan criticized Walker and the GOP for choosing him as the party's Senate candidate in an opinion piece published on the CNN site on Thursday.

"If we want the American public to take us seriously, we need to take the first step by nominating candidates they should take seriously." The process goes beyond fame. It requires leaders to articulate a conservative vision for governing in order to win elections.
