The company's flagship "metaverse" app is suffering from too many quality issues and the team building it isn't using it a lot.

In a memo dated September 15th, Meta's VP of Metaverse, Vishal Shah, said that the team would remain in a "quality lock down" for the rest of the year to make sure they fix their quality gaps and performance issues.

People can build and interact in virtual worlds that are legless as part of the program. The company is spending billions of dollars each year to build its vision of the metaverse, which is a key initiative. In December of last year, the platform was released. It hit 300,000 users earlier this year and is expected to be coming to mobile and desktop via a web version.

For an experience to be delightful and retentive, it must first be usable.

Shah wrote in a memo last month that the core thesis of the platform is strong. According to feedback from our creators, users, playtesters, and many of us on the team, the aggregate weight of paper cuts, stability issues, and bugs is making it too hard for our community to experience the magic ofHorizon. For an experience to be delightful and retentive, it needs to be usable and well crafted.

The current quality ofHorizon's graphics pales in comparison to some of its non-VR competitors The launch of the new version of the game in France and Spain was celebrated by the founder of the social networking site. At the company's annual Connect conference which is scheduled for October 11th, he said he would share "major updates toHorizon and avatar graphics."

We built the product so much that we use it all the time.

Shah says that the people building it inside Meta seem to not be using it that much. He told employees on September 15th that many of them don't spend a lot of time in the program. What is that? We love our product so much that we use it all the time. How can we expect our users to like it if we don't love it?

Shah wrote that a plan was being made to hold managers accountable for having their teams use Horizon at least once a week. Everyone in this organization needs to fall in love with this place. Without using it, you can't do that. You should get in there. In both internal and public builds, organize times so you can get to know our community better.

He wrote that the team needed to introduce new users to top-notch worlds that will ensure their first visit is a success, as well as calling out specific issues with the platform.

Shah said that the teams working on the project needed to work better together. His memo says that we aren't operating with enough flexibility. I would like to be clear on this point. There is a product we are working on. I need you to fully embrace change if you are on the program.

He said that the coming 2D version of Horizon for web wouldn't likely have a user target but instead a "high quality bar."

Meta is confident that the metaverse is the future of computing and that it should be built around people, according to the company's statement. She said the company always makes quality improvements and acts on feedback from the community of creators. We are going to keep improving what we build.
