The trailer for the film was unveiled at NYCC 2022, and was introduced by Kaling who exclaimed, "It begins with a murder, bitch!"
Linda Codega was at the panel and watched the pilot episode of the show. Velma gets her moment to carry big main character energy that Kaling described as a "truth teller:" she speaks her mind and also has anxiety that makes her hallucinate when trying to solve mysteries. She flirts with rich kid Fred, who is kind of a jerk, and may also flirt with another person. Though there was no confirmation of whether or not this version of Velma will be queer, we did learn that she has lesbian moms. The show was called a Love Quadrangle. Kaling and company said that it doesn't mean that Norville will stay anti-drugs. The character will shift from straight edge to exhaustion. Warner Bros. did not allow the use of the beloved mascot as the show focused more on raunchy hijinks and violence.
Ahead of the panel, official first looks at Fred, Daphne, and Norville were made public.
The additional cast includes Russell Peters, Stephen Root, Gary Cole, Cherry Jones, and Yvonne Orji.
The synopsis for the show states that it is an adult animated comedy series that tells the origin story of Velma Dinkley. An original and funny spin on the story of one of America's most beloved mysterysolvers.
Velma is going to be available for streaming on the pay per view channel.
