According to a source familiar with the situation, the studio Parcast and Gimlet will be impacted by the removal of 11 original podcasts from the platform. Some staff will be reassigned to other shows.
Reached for comment, the company said it doesn't comment on staffing changes.
Over the next couple of months, Gimlet's "How to Save a Planet," "Crime Show," " Every Little Thing," as well as Parcast's "Medical Murders," "Female Criminals," "Crimes ofPassion," and "Dictator" will leave the platform
The second quarter of 2023 will be the last time you'll see the show.
This is the first time a group has been canceled by the streaming service. It is likely that the move was made to strengthen its slate of original and exclusive (O&E) podcasts, which include hit shows "Batman Unburied," "Call Her Daddy" and the recently released KimKardashian's " The System: The Case of KevinKeith"
Similar to the TV industry's cancellation of duds, Spotify seems to be getting rid of them. The company plans to announce several upcoming O&E titles in the weeks and months ahead.
There are over 500 O&E podcasts produced by the music streaming platform.
The cancellation didn't affect The Ringer.
The company launched over 300,000 audiobooks last month, putting it in direct competition with top audiobook providers.
