If you want a large block of text with a TikTok, you're in luck. Longer descriptions are now available on TikTok.

TikTok's descriptions used to be limited to 300 characters. The character limit has been raised to 2,200 characters, which is the same as the photo sharing site. The design of the app doesn't lend itself to reading descriptions and they have never been the focal point of TikTok. The longer the description, the harder it is to read. The longer video descriptions make it harder to watch the full video.

TikTok highlighted several other updates in Thursday's press release. The company officially announced photo mode, its carousel photo sharing feature, which is meant to be used in a different way than TikTok's main feature.

Changes to the way you can edit videos are one of the things the platform is making.

Every major platform is in a fight to become the end-all be-all. We don't need 2200 characters to know it's tiring to watch.
