A video of a large drone dropping off a gun-wielding robot dog has gone viral and shows what the future of warfare could look like.
The footage shows a copter dropping off its load on a rooftop in a city. The dog stretches its legs.
The service rifle for the People's Liberation Army and paramilitary agencies in China has been carried by the robot.
The clip was shared by a Chinese account. According to a rough translation of the account's description of the video, "war dogs" that "descend from the sky" can be "directly inserted into the weak links behind the enemy to carry out surprise attacks."
It is a controversial use of technology. Boston Dynamics, maker of the popular Spot Mini robot, which bears a striking resemblance to the one in the video, has pledged to never weaponize any of its robots.
Others are still allowing quadruped robots. Several US defense contractors showed off four-legged robot prototypes.
A Russian tinkerer strapped a sub machine gun to a Chinese dog and shot it off in a video.
It's not clear if robot dogs will ever be air dropped from the sky via drones, but the technology definitely exists.
