Sources said on Thursday that Collins is coming back to the Giants.

With the expectation that he could be used in a variety of roles, Collins is being signed to the practice squad.

In the last few years, the Giants' second-round pick has played both safety and LB. He lived in Washington for three years.

The Giants gave Collins a good start in his career. He finished third in the defensive player of the year voting in the 2016 season, when he had 125 tackles, 4.0 sacks and 5 picks, and one of them was returned for a touchdown.

The Giants will play the Packers in London this weekend.

According to a source, Collins is going to meet the Giants.

The Giants and Collins were close to a deal, according to a report.

Jaylon Smith, A.J. Klein, and Collins have joined the Jets. Smith had six tackles in the win over the Bears. According to a source, Collins will take Klein's place on the Giants' practice squad.

Collins was a free agent after he couldn't agree on a restructured contract with the Commanders.

Collins signed a six-year contract with Washington after four years with the Giants. At the time of his release, he had three years remaining on his contract. Collins was used in a hybrid safety/linebacker role by Washington. The Commanders' defense played better as a result of that change. He had 81 tackles, 2 intercepts and 3 sacks last year.

He had injuries in the last two seasons. He was hurt in Week 7 of 2020 and missed four games. He was put on injured reserve because of a foot injury.

Collins was a first-team All Pro in 2016 after making three Pro Bowls with the Giants. He didn't play in the Pro Bowl.

In seven seasons, Collins has 11 picks and 10 sacks.

John Keim and Jeremy Fowler worked on the report.
