Why taking the knee still means 'everything' for players and fans (2:25)

The importance of players taking a knee before a game is discussed by Odegaard and Mack. There is a time and a place for it.

Ahead of the "No Room for Racism" matches in October, players in the top tier of English football will take a knee.

Ahead of the 2022-23 season, it was decided that captains would take the knee at significant matches rather than doing so at every game, but their commitment to combat racism and discrimination remained.

The players will take a knee before the first game of the season to show their unity against all forms of racism.

At the FA Cup and EFL Cup finals, players will take the knee on the final day of the season, after the No Room For Racism match days.

The league and clubs are calling on fans to report discrimination wherever they see it, as the No Room For Racism messaging will be displayed over the next two weekends.

Richard Masters said he supported the decision to take the knee and would use the matches to promote anti- discrimination.
