Royal Jordanian is in the process of renewing its fleet. We learned a few days ago about the carrier placing an order with Airbus and now we know about the airline placing an order with Embraer.

Royal Jordanian plans to increase its fleet from 24 to 40 over the next five years. Go over the details.

Royal Jordanian’s current fleet

Royal Jordanian has a fleet of 24 passenger planes.

  • Five Airbus A319s, which are an average of ~15 years old
  • Six Airbus A320s, which are an average of ~11 years old
  • Two Airbus A321s, which are an average of ~10 years old
  • Seven Boeing 787-8s, which are an average of ~seven years old
  • Two Embraer E175s, which are an average of ~14 years old
  • Two Embraer E195s, which are an average of ~14 years old

There are six different types of aircraft in the fleet. For the purposes of crew training, there are only three fleet types, and they are the two types of Embraer jets.

The average fleet age is around 12 years. It is a good time to think about fleet renewal since orders are usually made years in advance.

Royal Jordanian orders 20 Airbus A320neos

The airline has an order for 20 A320neos, according to the CEO. The new version of the A320 features improved fuel efficiency and a quieter cabin.

Royal Jordanian currently flies 13 A320-family aircraft, which will be replaced by 20 planes, meaning that the airline will be expanding its fleet. Since the airline will only fly A320neos, there will be more fleet consistency.

It is expected that these planes will feature a variety of entertainment options. Flat beds will be included in some of the A320neos.

The flat beds are explained by the fact that Royal Jordanian uses its Airbus fleet for many routes to Europe. If Royal Jordanian just went for full consistency, and installed flat beds on all A320neos, it would be great.

Royal Jordanian orders 10 Embraer E190-E2s

Royal Jordanian plans to expand its jet fleet. The E190-E2 and E195-E2 variant of the E2 jets will be acquired by Royal Jordanian. The E175 and E195 will be replaced by these jets.

The airline is planning on using these planes for short haul flights. The airline is going from four to 10 regional jets and will be able to increase capacity.

The E195-E2 will be equipped with 120 seats, including 12 business class seats and 106 economy class seats. The E190-E2s will have 92 seats and include 12 business class seats and 80 economy class seats.

The long range of the E2 jet won't be needed here as it will only be used on short haul routes. I was curious to see if Royal Jordanian would use the A 220 or the E2 since so many airlines use the A 220.

The Royal Jordanian fleet will be joined in the coming years.

Royal Jordanian plans to add Boeing 787s

Royal Jordanian is refreshing its fleet quickly. The airline has ordered a number of aircraft, including the A320neos and E2 jets.

Royal Jordanian plans to increase its Boeing fleet from seven to 11 jets, with the possibility of adding either Boeing 787-9s or the new Boeing 10s. I think we will find out the details soon. The current product on these jets is quite outdated so Royal Jordanian should install a new product.

Bottom line

Royal Jordanian is going to be refreshing and expanding. 13 existing A320s, A320s, and A321s will be replaced by 20 new A320neos. The airline will acquire 10 E190-E2s and E195-E2s, which will replace four existing E 175s and E195s. Royal Jordanian is expected to expand its Boeing 787-9 fleet, but the details are still being worked out.

Jordan has a great location for connecting in the Middle East. I wish Royal Jordanian was more competitive in their product.
