Marriott starts its annual Week of Wonders promotion — here's what you need to know

There are deals to be had during Marriott's annual Week of Wonders promotion.

There are a lot of different hotel promotions during the month of October. Bonus points on paid stays are included. Marriott wants this year's Week of Wonders promo to show that people are choosing experiences over physical gifts during the holidays.

According to a Marriott Bonvoy survey, more than one in three Americans plan to cross off a travel destination from their bucket list.

Marriott will be offering interesting deals through the end of next week.

Save on paid and award stays

Discounts on paid stays

Marriott Bonvoy members are able to take advantage of discounted hotel stays. You can save 20% off standard paid nights when you book by October 13 You can find discounted rates on the Wonders of Escape page on Marriott's website.

Marriott has a 15% discount on all-inclusive stays at its resorts. On the Wonders of Unwinding landing page, you can find discounted rates.

Discount on award stays

Award stays can get a hefty discount.

If you book a hotel included in the Wonders of Discovery promotion, you can get up to a 15% discount on the award price.

When searching for award nights on Marriott's website, you will find discounted stays. In the past, we have been able to pay off peak prices for a larger range of eligible dates. We expect Marriott to stay at the lower end of pricing bands now that award charts are gone.

If you have already booked a stay, you might want to rethink it during the promotional period. You can rebook at the lower rate if you're within the cancellation window.

Get double points on travel experiences

Bonvoy members can earn double points when booking travel experiences through Marriott Bonvoy Tours & Activities.

Double points and elite nights can be earned on Marriott International's homes and villas by Marriott International stays. Marriott has a program that allows you to rent premium and luxury homes and condominiums as vacation rentals.

Bid on experiences

During the Week of Wonders Marriott is selling unique experiences. Marriott Bonvoy points can be used for exclusive tours, private dinners and tickets to exclusive events.

There are some items being auctioned off.

• Embark on a NYC Culinary Adventure with Phil Rosenthal: Get to explore New York City with "Everybody Loves Raymond" creator Phil Rosenthal (also a self-described foodie and star of Netflix’s “Somebody Feed Phil”), who will guide you through some of the best dining stops in the city such as Peter Luger, Don Angie, and Caffè Panna for some of his personal favorite dishes. Guests will also take home a copy of Phil's new cookbook, slated to be released Oct. 18.
• Marvel at the Great Pyramids of Giza: Pair a midnight dinner of Egyptian cuisine with an exclusive guided tour of the Great Pyramids of Giza. The tour includes a meditation session inside the pyramids, which are usually closed to visitors at night, and a photography session.
