Most people want the new Apple device. It is not the iPhone with a high-resolution camera. The phone has a big display and a long battery.
It is all you need to know about it. If you want a phone with the best battery life, then the iPhone 14 Plus is the one for you.
The 14 Plus is a bigger screen version of the standard phone. Apple went bigger with the iPhone this year. The standard 14 has a 6.1-inch screen, but this one has a 6.7-inch screen. It claims to have the best battery life of any phone, but in my experience, you can get more than that.
The regular 14 starts at $799. It is the cheapest 6.7-inch iPhone released so far, but it is still not cheap.
The new display features on the 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max aren't included. Dynamic Island is a shape shifting notch that displays system status indicators and an always on display that shows a dim version of your wallpaper even when the screen is locked. They are useful, but they are more of a sign of what is to come for the phone. A lot of people want the kind of upgrade that the 14 Plus provides.
The 14 Plus has a 2778 x 1284 resolution, which is slightly higher than the 14's, but it still has the same resolution as the 14. You can see more emails or parts of a website before you need to scroll because the images look just as sharp on this screen.
It is a shame that there is no ProMotion here. Long after fast refresh rates have become the norm forANDROID phones at the same price, Apple still reserved that for the pro models. I noticed it when I switched from the 14 Pro to the 16 Pro because the screen is so large. The 14 Plus has an excellent battery performance due to the lower refresh rate. Most people will be happy with that tradeoff.
It's obvious that this phone has more visual space than a 6.1-inch model, but it's also true that the feeling of having more visual space is real. There is more text on the screen and games are more interactive. It is very similar to a big phone. It's difficult to use it one-handed with the "reachability" controls. The 14 and 14 Pro feel more comfortable in my hand than the big phone does.
The 14 Plus is not as heavy as I thought. It's 7.16 ounces, or 28 grams, more than the iPhone 14 and less than the 14 Pro. I appreciated the light weight of the phone because it didn't fit in my pants pocket. It makes the 14 Plus feel less intimidating than the Pro Max.
The screen is the main draw of the phone, but the extra real estate adds to the battery life. The battery in the 14 Pro Max is comparable to the battery in the 14 Plus, according to macrumors. The 14 Plus has better battery performance because it doesn't have all the fancy features of the newer models.
Apple says it has the best battery life in its phone. In my experience, a day of moderate use with two hours of screen time and plenty of time away from the internet only drained the battery by 25 percent. Three days of use on a single charge is what I got. I can't remember the last time I used an Apple device that lasted a few days.
People shouldn't expect multi day performance. Pushing into the single digits by the end of day two is more reasonable with heavier use. I only had two hours of screen time on the 14 Plus, but I didn't take it easy. I used navigation, connected to 5G as often as possible, and recorded a few short video clips. I felt like I should have pushed the phone's battery percentage lower. Look me in the eye.
The use of the iPhone 14 Plus feels similar to the use of the iPhone 14.
The way in which the iPhone 14 Plus is used feels similar to the way in which the iPhone 14 is used. The A15 Bionic is recycled from last year's 13 Pro and keeps up with everything you can throw at it. The rest of the 14 series does not have a physical sim tray.
Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via Satellite are included on the 14 Plus model, as well as other 14 and 14 Pro models. Crash Detection uses multiple phone sensors and inputs to detect when you've been in a car accident and call for help. Early reviews are mixed. Sometimes it can work too well. It seems to rely on a lot of signals to indicate that you are in a moving car, which may cause it to miss some crashes if you haven't been driving for a while.
In November, you will be able to send a message to emergency services when you're out of range. For the first two years, it is included in the price of the phone. You will be able to try it out even if you don't need it.
The same cameras as the 14 are included in the 14 Plus, which means a 12-megapixel f/ 1.5 main camera with sensor-shift stabilization, a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 12-megapixel selfies camera. The 14 Plus does gain the benefits of Apple's updated image processing called Photonic Engine, but it doesn't have a high-res sensor.
Even though the hardware isn't new or special, it's still better low-light performance from the ultrawide and selfies cam. You can read a little more in-depth analysis in my review, but the short version is that this is a very good camera system, not solely worthUpgrading for, but it will be a pleasant update if you are coming from an older model.
I didn't find a reason to pick the iPhone 14 over the iPhone 13 If you want the best features, the 14 Pro is for you. Most people would be better off without the 14 and 13 because they are so small.
The argument for spending a little more can be made by the Apple device. The $899 price tag is nothing to sneeze at, but it is less expensive than the starting price of the 14 Pro, and less expensive than the 14 Pro Max, which costs more. You get a significant boost in battery life even if you upgrade from an older phone. A phone with a good battery life is more likely to last a few years when it inevitably degrades. The 14 Plus is likely to be supported by Apple for at least five years.
You get a boost in battery life even if you upgrade from an older model.
People don't want small phones and there's the screen as well. Most people don't care that the phone isn't pocketable or usable with one hand. This isn't the best screen Apple has, but it's still very good.
It has a big screen and good battery life for less than $1,000. A lot of people will find the 14 Plus appealing, and it delivers on its promise.
