Lower base fares are being offered by cruise lines to attract more travelers.

The average price for a two-person room on a Carnival cruise is $26 a day. The cruise costs about $507.

Cruise prices are not keeping up with inflation, according to analysts on Wall Street.

The capacity of Carnival Corporation's cruise ships peaked in the summer. Analysts on Wall Street had predicted an 85%Occupancy. During the summer months, 100% of cruise ships are occupied.

Insider was told that rising inflation makes cruises more attractive to travelers.

"With the cost and recent challenges with air travel, we are seeing strong interest in cruises that are a short flight or drive from guests' homes," the spokesman said.

Chris Gray Faust, managing editor of Cruise Critic, told Insider that travel headaches made cruises more appealing to travelers who wanted to avoid expensive flights.

A lot of people in the US live close enough to drive to cruise ports in Boston, Los Angeles, and New York City.

Gray Faust said that they are seeing great deals from the drive-to ports. She said that if you live within driving distance of San Diego, you can go to Mexico in November for less than $300 per person.

Travelers are spending money on cruises.

Gray Faust said that once people get onboard, they are spending on drink packages, extra fee dining, spa treatments, casino and shore excursion revenue. There is an incentive to get people in the door.

The timing is unusual about current cruise deals. During "Wave Season," which begins after the holidays, the best travel bargains are usually found.

It's cheaper to book a cruise in October because of those deals.
