I wouldn't consider the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro a slam dunk when it comes to hardware. I like the camera bar look, but I don't like curved displays. To each one of them. I think the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are some of the best phones that the company has ever made, but they are not without some flaws. Many of the software bugs have been solved, but there are still some hardware concerns.

The main annoyances that I'm hoping to see addressed with the about-to-release Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are based on my own time using both devices for extended periods.

The Tensor chip runs hot

It doesn't take a lot of work to get the phones to feel warm after 20 minutes or so. TikTok can turn up the temperature. It is not a good look when Apple devices stay cool almost all the time, and the Pixel 6 can get cold.

The release of Android 13 went a long way in cooling down both phones, as was the case in the past. The heat issue still persists from time to time, and when it happens, the phones will stop features like the camera flash to make them safer.

I hope that with the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, there is more of a focus on efficiency and maintaining performance.

The Pixel 6’s display is a considerable step down from the 6 Pro’s

There are other differences between the displays of the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. It is obvious that the lower-cost device was made with an inferior panel. The 6 Pro is a better choice for uniformity, contrast, and brightness. If you didn't compare the two, you wouldn't know the difference, but it is noticeable.

This isn't a tradeoff that other manufacturers make, so it would be nice to see a better screen for thePixel 7. The iPhone 14 has an excellent display, just as good as the 14 Pro, but it only has a 60Hz screen. If you want a smaller, more affordable phone, you shouldn't have to stare at a worse screen all day.

Google needs to fix the signal strength

The Pixel 6 lineup has been the subject of complaints that it has a weaker cellular connection than other flagships. The phones were out of date when they were announced, and this seems to be a result of the modem built into them.

It is possible that you haven't encountered any problems if you have a strong signal. The weak signal strength was one of the main criticisms of the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.

Faster charging would be nice

The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro can't juice up their batteries as fast as their competitors. They don't even meet the advertised "30 watt" wired charging. Even though the company says it aims to strike a balance between battery life, longevity and fast charging, it's not the case for many phone makers. The temperature plays a part in this too, so when the Pixel 6 starts to heat up, it won't do any good.

About that fingerprint scanner...

I haven't had many issues with the under-display fingerprints on the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, but I know many people haven't been as lucky. There have been many attempts to improve and speed up the process of fingerprints. Things will get faster with the new phone. Soon, we'll find out. It appears that face unlock may be added as a backup option. I miss the faster and more accurate fingerprints that were on the back of the previous Pixel phones.

At tomorrow's hardware event, there will be all the details on the new products. We will be live posting the announcements as they come in, but you should also keep an eye out for our full reviews of the new devices for any changes that have been made.
