A campaign official told CNBC that Herschel Walker's Senate campaign raised over $500,000 since he appeared on Fox News to deny a report that he had paid for a woman's abortion years earlier.
An anonymous woman accused Walker of urging her to get an abortion after she became pregnant with his child when they were dating.
Walker told Sean that the report was a lie. Walker's accuser supported her claims with a receipt from the abortion clinic, a "get well" card from Walker and an image of a personal check signed by him.
A source close to Walker told NBC News that he raised $50,000 in one interview. The person said the haul was a record.
Walker was trounced in campaign funds by his opponent. The campaign took in almost $300,000 per day in the last quarter.
According to Open Secrets, the Walker campaign has taken in about 20 million dollars.
The candidates seem to be in a close race. Polling averages show that the contest is close.
The Senate race in Georgia, where President Joe Biden narrowly beat President Donald Trump in 2020, is one of several key elections that will determine which party controls the Senate after November's elections.
The fundraising windfall for the scandal-plagued GOP Senate hopeful came as top Republicans, including Trump, defended Walker.
"Herschel has denied the charges against him, and I have no doubt he is correct," Trump said in a statement.
Walker's adult son Christian accused his father of lying and threatening violence against family members after the story was published.
