Aaron Judge out of Yankees' lineup for finale after 62nd HR

A day after breaking Roger Maris' single-season home run record, Judge was not in the Yankees' starting lineup for their finale against the Rangers.

It was Judge's 55th consecutive game when he hit a solo home run in the first game of the twin bill. He's played in 157 games for the division title.

The Yankees won't play in the playoffs until next week because of the bye.

After Tuesday's game, the manager said they would have a conversation and see what made the most sense, even though Judge wanted to play.

Before Wednesday's game, he said he was pretty set on giving him the day.

When asked if there was a scenario in which Judge would pinch hit, he said he hoped not.

Judge was batting.300 going into the final day of the regular season, but he was behind Minnesota's Luis Arraez, who was hitting.315.

The chance that Judge would become the first American League player to win the Triple Crown in five years made it tempting to play him.
