After the death of Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles III became Britain's new monarch, but his coronation will take place on June 3, next year, according to government sources.
Even before becoming king, Charles had long planned to slim down the monarchy in an effort to make the ancient institution more modern, more cost efficient and less flashy, an approach that is widely believed to have influenced plans for his coronation.
Sources have told British media outlets that Charles will likely be a shorter, smaller and less expensive ceremony than his predecessors, and that he wants the ceremony to reflect the diversity of modern Britain and represent different communities and faiths that reside in the U.K.
While Elizabeth was crowned in front of more than 8,000 guests in 1953, new safety measures at the abbey restricted the guest list to around 2,000.
The centerpiece of the Crown Jewels is estimated to be worth around $4 billion, and Charles will likely be crowned with it.
When Charles and Camilla married in 2005, eight years after the death of Diana, they were not expected to become queen consort.
Britain's residents will probably get a bank holiday on the day of the coronation, like they did for Elizabeth's funeral.

People in Britain won't be celebrating the event. The anti-monarchy group Republic promised after Elizabeth's death that large republican protests would take place. "Charles is already king," said Graham Smith. There is no need for this expensive pantomime to take place. As Britain faces a cost-of- living crisis, critics have blasted the idea of holding a costly coronation.
According to Buckingham Palace, the coronation ceremony has stayed essentially the same over a thousand years. Since the Norman Conquest, the senior bishop of the Church of England has held the service almost every time. Charles is expected to be anointed, blessed and consecrated during the ceremony. He'll take a seat in King Edward's chair, which has been used by every king since 1626, and is from the 14th century. The orb and scepter will be placed on Charles' head by the archbishop.
The ceremony for Charles' mother was held on June 2, 1953. Nine months from now, it will come. It is considered a celebratory occasion not to be held while mourning the death of a monarch. After the death of her father, Elizabeth had her own coronation.
