Since 2015, the streets have not had a proper Batman game. If you're looking for another Batman game, clear your schedule because this one seems like a doozy.

Nightwing, Batgirl, Red Hood, and Robin are Batman's four sidekicks in the new movie "Gotham Knights". Each of them has their own unique abilities, fighting style, and gadgets, which can be found in each of them. I tried them all and each one felt different.

Nightwing's training as an acrobat helped him perform all over the place. The way Batgirl beats down her opponents is similar to Batman's. Robin and Red Hood both use stealth and slingshots. Out of the four, Nightwing was the one that I enjoyed the most. He has a kit that allows him to open enemies up for free hits.

If your game references Nightwing a lot, you need to make it a dummy. Nightwing doesn't have his ass in the movie.

This “Nightbutt” is disappointing.

You have a choice of how you engage in combat regardless of who you are playing as. The stealth approach allows you to swoop down from light poles or perches to take out your opponent without being noticed. If you time your hits and dodges right, you can fly through the air with batarangs. You will need to take down the game's bigger enemies in order to use the game's momentum system. There was a mini-boss fight where I had to fight an enemy with a combo that could only be interrupted by my special moves.

I didn't like this person. When she used her unblockable attack, it drained half my life bar, and it was difficult to build up the momentum meter to counter it. She wasn't a one-off mini-boss but a regular enemy that would now be peppered in every encounter from there on out. Combat that used to be a free-flowing mix of punches, dives, and dodges now feels like encounters had to be chewed through rather than enjoyed That's a good sign!

The kind of game that takes a serious commitment to get through appears to be the kind of game that is designed for. I was reminded of how Assassin's Creed-like it is when I played Knights. The game becomes an open world once you've finished the first part of the game. If you want to work on the main mystery, you can take on any one of the various gangs in the city, or you can race your souped-up Batcycle ala that one scene with Chris O'Donnell and Coolio.

The main mystery is compelling to follow, but it is a bit tedious because of the various rogues in your way. I enjoyed playing in the game. The Bat Babies have unique characteristics. All that space has to be filled with something because the game is so large. Something will at least be substance when the show launches on October 21st.
