I spend a lot of time on Facebook and I would like to see less of it. It has been decades since Facebook's platform was made available to the public.
A lot of what we see in our Facebook feed is influenced by the algorithm. If you like a bunch of hiking Groups and Pages, interact with a lot of photos of the outdoors, and post about your backpacking adventures, you might be met with more recommendations from creators and communities related to hiking. According to Facebook, what you see in your Feed is unique to your interests.
You can choose "Show more" or "Show less" on posts that are recommended to you by Facebook and posts from people, pages, and communities you are connected to organically. Users will hopefully be given a bit more control over it.
Selecting Show more will increase the ranking score for that post and posts like it. You will temporarily decrease its ranking score if you choose to show less. We're making our artificial intelligence systems smarter and more responsive by offering more ways to incorporate direct feedback.
The option to see more or less of something on our feeds is designed to give us the illusion of control over our feeds.
Clicking on the three-dot menu at the upper right-hand corner of posts will allow you to choose between Show more or Show less buttons. This feature will be tested in Reels as well. If this will make life on Facebook better or if we should just throw the towel in and quit Meta, that's what we should do.
