On Wednesday, Bortles announced his retirement from the NFL at the age of 30.

Bortles said on the Pardon My Take that he had not touched a football in January. I have stopped working.

Bortles did not tell anyone he retired. Just didn't tell anyone a few months ago. I think you guys are the first to hear it.

Bortles admitted that if a team is willing to offer him a contract that is too good to pass up, he would come back to the league.

The Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints both signed Bortles to contracts in the year 2021.

In each of his first five seasons, Bortles was the team's primary starter.

While Bortles struggled to a 24-49 record as a starter, he did enjoy some success, including the 2015 season when he threw for a career high 4,428 yards and 35 touchdown.

Two years later, his numbers weren't as strong, but the Jags had one of their best seasons in franchise history and Bortles was the starter.

The Jags were close to reaching the Super Bowl, but two touchdown passes from Tom Brady to Danny Amendola gave the Pats the victory.

After Bortles played poorly, the Jags cut him and he ended up with the Rams.

Bortles spent most of 2020 on the Denver Broncos' practice squad and was on the Packers' and Saints' rosters, but was cut before the season started each time.

Bortles' career numbers and record show that he was a bust as the No. 3 overall pick, but he had a lot of talent that was hampered by poor decision-making and a bad supporting cast.

At the very least, Bortles was a key part of a team that nearly went the distance, and that will be talked about for a long time.
