The K 100 Air Wireless mechanical gaming keyboard is Corsair's lightest keyboard. The keyboard went on sale this week with a price tag of $2799.99, making it the most expensive keyboard currently listed by Corsair. It is just 11mm thick at its lightest point.

The keyboard has mechanical switches, which could be why the price is premium. These ultra low-profile switches are just 3.5mm tall and have the same look as the scissor switches on most laptop keyboards.

We haven't seen Cherry's latest slim switches on a mass market keyboard until Corsair's K 100 Air. One company tried to crowdfund something like that. Expect a typing experience that is closer to a Cherry MX Brown than an MX Blue because Corsair is using the tactile version of Cherry's ultra low-profile switch.

Corsair's K 100 Air has a set of features that are familiar. There is an additional set of media keys, a volume roller, and extra shortcut buttons included. They all have a keyboard that integrates with Corsair's iCue software to control their lighting.

The K 100 Air has a polling rate of up to 8,000Hz over a cable, while Corsair's Slipstream Wireless can drop this to 2,000. It can be used to switch between devices with a keyboard shortcut. Corsair says it can provide up to 50 hours of battery life with the keyboard turned on or off.

It feels like this year has been the year of low-profile mechanical keyboards as evidenced by Corsair's K 100 Air. If you're more comfortable with a low-profile laptop-style keyboard, it's great to see more high-quality alternatives emerge.
