Russian media reported that a beauty queen was fined $680 for singing a Ukrainian song.

A woman was fined over a video that showed her and another woman singing.

According to the Russian state news agency, she was named Miss Crimea.

The song is considered the anthem of Ukrainian nationalist groups, according to the report.

The two women are suspected of committing illegal actions aimed at defaming the use of the armed forces of the Russian Federation, as well as publicly displaying prohibited symbols.

The other woman in the video was sentenced to 10 days of "administrative arrest" because she has children.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine, the song "Chervona Kalyna" has gone viral.

Valeeva was fined for not knowing the meaning of the song.

She said that she did not want to hurt anyone. It was just a song that we knew for a long time.

According to a translation by The Guardian, the interior ministry shared a video on Telegram of two women with their faces obscured, apologizing for singing the song.

The woman says in the video that she didn't know that the song had a nationalist character and that she didn't want to spread propaganda by singing it.

The video of them singing appeared on the internet.

It's not known when the video was recorded or if Valeeva shared it with anyone.

The annexation of the peninsula by Russia is recognized by the international community.

On Telegram on Sunday, an adviser to Russia's government in Crimea said that there was no punishment for normal Ukrainian songs.

It's but! No one will allow nationalists to sing here. Anyone who did would be taken to neutral territory. You can sing all you want.

Russia is trying to remove marks of Ukrainian identity in the country.

Russian passports and money have been introduced in the eastern regions that it seized after it invaded.
