Buck Showalter said that Jacob deGrom could start the season finale if the Mets finish first in the NL East.

He can pitch on Wednesday. Showalter said that it could potentially could. There are many options that have been communicated with him and Max.

If the Mets decided to start deGrom, they wouldn't be able to give their ace an extra day of rest for the first two games of the playoffs.

The adjustment will be made. Showalter said he's okay with that. Stay organized for any pivots you have to make. There are many possibilities.

The wild-card series is supposed to start a day before the season finale, but Showalter said he was fine with that because the division is still up for grabs.

I think it's a good thing. Showalter made a statement. There is a downside to that. Just win, right? We would all sign up for that.

If the Mets want to win the division, they will need good fortune. Atlanta will take the lead in the division if the Mets or Braves lose. The Mets could win the division if they swept the Nationals.

In deGrom's start against the Braves on Friday, he allowed three runs on three home runs and five hits while striking out 11 and walking none, but the Mets fell to the Braves. The Braves took control of the NL East in the last week of the season after sweeping New York.

Showalter said he spoke to Starling Marte, who's unable to grip a bat or a baseball, and that the finger that landed him on the injured list is getting better.

Showalter said that he still had some pain there. It's difficult for him.

Showalter would not rule out the possibility of a wild card series.

The Mets have not yet activated Givens from the injured list, according to Showalter.
