Bulletin, an off- platform newsletter product, is shutting down. Bulletin allowed readers to subscribe to newsletters from contributors like Malcolm Gladwell. Bulletin was similar to Substack in that it allowed writers to sell subscription to their newsletters.
A Meta spokesman said that Bullet has allowed them to learn about the relationship between creators and their audience and how to support them in building their community on Facebook. We are still committed to supporting the success of these and other creators on our platform.
Bulletin writers will still make money until the platform closes. Writers have access to the email addresses of their subscribers so they can alert them if they decide to move their newsletter to another site.
Last week, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company was going to freeze hiring, cut costs, and restructure some groups. The company shifted engineering and product support away from products like Facebook News and Bulletin to work on Meta's creator economy products.
Meta is trying to dominate the metaverse, but it is also trying to compete with TikTok. The platform has tried to convert to a feed with more suggested content, but users prefer to see posts from people they follow. Meta is going ahead with its plans despite the feedback.
