TikTok was fined by a Russian court for violating the country's anti-gay propaganda law.
The fines are based on charges that TikTok was promoting non-traditional sexual values, videos featuring lesbian, gay, and bisexual people, and distorted representation of traditional sexual values. The law was used to crack down on the internet's content. The fines were warned by Russia.
Russia fined TikTok for hosting an interview with a Ukrainian adviser to the Ukrainian president that it says violates laws about fake news. Russia has introduced harsher "fake news" laws that aim to punish people who "discredit" the military. In August, a different stream with Arestovych was refused by twitch.
The companies didn't respond to requests for comment.
Russia has cracked down on tech companies for hosting content that is not in line with the country's strict rules. Russia imposed a $365 million fine on Google for refusing to remove videos about the war in Ukraine.
Russia continues to issue more fines for tech companies, even though the fines are relatively small. According to the state news agency, there are new fines for failing to remove "false" content about the war in Ukranian.
