There is a new era officially here.
The starter for Sunday's game at the Buffalo Bills is listed on the depth chart by the PittsburghSteelers.
It will be the first time in over a year that a rookies will start for the team.
During the first half of the New York Jets' 24-20 loss to the PittsburghSteelers, coach Mike Tomlin made a substitution. He completed 10 of 13 attempts for 120 yards with three picks and two rushing scores.
Pat Freiermuth said that they were able to be aggressive with Kenny in there. "Obviously, some mistakes are going to happen, but we have to continue to work past that and be there for Kenny, especially since he's a young guy."
He averaged 9.2 yards per attempt and 13.2 air yards per attempt, well above Trubisky's season averages of 5.6 yards per attempt and 9.9% air yards per attempt.
The Pitt product hadn't worked with the first team offense since the preseason, but he impressed his teammates with his calm demeanor in the huddle and attitude on the field. His most impressive throw was as he completed an 18-yard pass to Freiermuth over the middle on third-and-long. As Williams got up from the field, Pickett smiled at him as he got up from the field.
Diontae Johnson said that he played with confidence. He wants to huddle up and come in to listen. People respect him. He's going to learn and grow as a player. It's our job to make him feel comfortable while he's out there.
Ben Roethlisberger was the first quarterback drafted by the organization.
The Steelers drafted a quarterback in the first round, but he entered the preseason as the backup to Trubisky.
In the first preseason game, he completed 13 of 15 attempts for 95 yards and two touchdown, including a game-winning drive against Seattle. He completed 80.6 percent of his attempts and averaged 7.3 yards per attempt.
The team voted Trubisky a captain because of his veteran experience and he was the starter.
The offense struggled through the first 3 1/2 weeks as they averaged 18 points per game.
After the Thursday night loss to the Jets, he preached patience and pointed to encouraging signs of improvement, but now he's sticking with him, despite the fact that he inserted his rookies at the half of the game.
"I think I have an edge to me," he said. That should rub off on everyone. I want our attitude to be positive when we're on the field. I'm looking forward to getting back to work.
