Jerry Jones acknowledged that the quarterback's grip on a football is "not well enough to play", but he wouldn't rule him out of the game.
Jones said that the thumb of the quarterback is getting better.
Jones said that he didn't know if you could ask for better news in terms of how it is responding and healing. I don't know if you could make any more progress if you consider the location of the injury, but all of those things are on go and I don't know that you could make any more progress. I often say that only the man upstairs knows how to heal, but he will be hard on himself getting it ready to go, because he will have a big week.
A meeting with the doctors is planned for Tuesday. The stitches were removed from his thumb after the surgery. After the win against the Washington Commanders, Jones said that he had yet to throw the ball because of swelling in the joint.
McCarthy wants the quarterback to go through a full week of practice before he's ready to return.
We aren't talking about being out one week here. McCarthy made a statement.
Jones said on the radio that there needs to be a process before they play a game. It's not possible to eliminate the week's work and be ready to go.
Cooper Rush will make his fourth start. Rush won the first four starts of his career, becoming the first Cowboys quarterback to do that. He has four touchdown and no turnovers in three starts this season.
When asked if there were any games or wins that would make the Cowboys stick with Rush, Jones said, "No, as I see it right now."
