All new portable devices need to use the same type of charging cable.
The Apple iPhone and iPad would have to use ausb-c from the year 2024, while laptops have until the year 2026 to make the change.

The parliamentary report states that the new requirements may apply to devices sold in Northern Ireland under the terms of the Northern Ireland protocol.
While the rest of the UK is outside the single market for goods, Northern Ireland is inside it.
The UK and EU are at odds over how to reform Northern Ireland.
Margrethe Vestager, the EU commissioner for competition, celebrated the new rule on the social networking site.
Apple has previously opposed the proposal.
"Strict regulation mandating just one type of connector stifles innovation rather than encouraging it, which in turn will harm consumers in Europe and around the world".
The technology giant makes the majority of its products using a custom charging port.
The company has been contacted for a comment.
A range of small and medium-sized portable electronics will be covered by the new rule.
