The successor to the Nest Hello video doorbell has been released by the search engine giant. The new Nest Doorbell, which was first teased last year, is now available at retailers such as Best Buy.
The new Nest Doorbell is for homes with doorbell wires. If the power goes out, a wired doorbell won't record video, unlike a battery powered one.
The design of the new doorbell is almost the same as the existing one, but it is just a little shorter. The four colors are the same as the Nest Doorbell. It costs the same, and has the same features.
The Nest Doorbell is wired and can record video 24 hours a day, seven days a week for a fee.
The new doorbell has a 30 frames per second video resolution with a 1.3-megapixel color sensor and a high definition camera. A head-to-toe view with a 3:1 aspect ratio and a 145 degree field of view is captured by the camera.
Those who love the Nest Hello, which has a higher resolution at 1600 x 1200, a wider field of view, and a stronger digital zoom, will be disappointed by these specifications. It is still available for $149, but it doesn't include the three hours of event recording that newer buzzers do.
Our reviewer Dan Seifert said he never felt the video or image quality wasn't good when he tested the doorbell. The new camera has the clearest image yet, according to Julie Zhu, a spokeswoman for the search giant. This is due to the software improvements that will be brought to all newer cameras by the company. She said that advanced artificial intelligence and software expertise helped them to get the best out of the hardware.
The doorbell has on- device processing of video footage to deliver quicker alert for people, packages, vehicles, and animals. You can get an alert when someone is at the door with the Familiar Faces feature.
If the power goes out, the doorbell can record an hour's worth of events, but it doesn't have a battery backup. It can be used as a doorbell chime, as well as a live video streaming device. It allows you to see and talk to people at your door.
Quick responses, activity zones, and a three hour event history are included in the software. A 30- to 60-day history of event-triggered video recordings can be seen with a nest aware subscription. You can get 10 days of continuous video if you level up to a nest aware plus subscription. The Nest Doorbell isn't compatible with the legacy Nest app.
I covered a lot of the updates to the Home app in this article. Improved camera integration is included. You will be able to scroll through recorded footage in the Home app. You will see snapshots of the action for easier reference, and the app will open to show a live view from your cameras, making it quicker to see what is happening at your front door.
