  • A brand-new UI is completely customizable and includes helpful new tabs for getting to important areas, like automation, more quickly.
  • Google is implementing Matter Fast Pair, making Google Home available in Wear OS and the web, and migrating important Nest camera features from the Nest app.

The last time a complete redesign of the Google Home app was done, it was met with a mixed reaction. Some users liked the simplicity and clarity of the elements, but others were annoyed by the way it organized information and oversimplified tasks.

The new redesign of the Home app should check most of the right boxes, even if you were in one of the two camps. You can sign up for the public preview to try it out.

The newUI takes some design from the previous rebuild and gets rid of all the white space. Depending on what's most important to you, the grid of controls can be rearranged and reassembled. The best smart home devices can be grouped by room, category, or by something more arbitrary like "cat", which can be found in the new tab.

If you open the app, you'll be able to see live camera streams and lightbulb controls on the main page. A brand new cameraUI that features better timeline scrubbing, event management, and more is one of the new features that will be coming to the Nest cam app over to the Home app.
