Nicolle Wallace felt the condemnation of Donald Trump by the Wall Street Journal was hollow.
On Monday's broadcast of "Deadline: White House," Wallace welcomed the Murdoch-owned newspaper's denunciation of Trump's suggestion on his Truth Social platform that Senate Minority LeaderMitch McConnell has a "death wish".
Wallace pointed out the Journal's previous support of Trump. Last year, the Journal published a letter from Trump to the editor that contained conspiracy theories about the election.
Wallace, who was the White House communications director for Bush, said that the Journal did more legitimizing of Trump's presidency than any other outlet.
She said that they were as responsible for his presidency as any news organization in this country.
The publication's board warned of the consequences of Trump's words.
It was written.
Mr. Trump’s apologists claim he merely meant Mr. McConnell has a political death wish, but that isn’t what he wrote. It’s all too easy to imagine some fanatic taking Mr. Trump seriously and literally, and attempting to kill Mr. McConnell. Many supporters took Mr. Trump’s rhetoric about former Vice President Mike Pence all too seriously on Jan. 6.
