BBC Women's Footballer of the Year 2022: Meet the nominees

There is a chance to vote for the women's footballer of the year.

Fans from all over the world can vote for their favorite from the five players on the list.

Previous winners of the award include Asisat Oshoala and Lucy Bronze.

The winner of the award will be announced on November 9th on the websites of the BBC World Service and the BBC Sport.

A panel of experts, including coaches, players, administrators and journalists, chose the five candidates for the award.

Sam Kerr

BBC Women's Footballer of the Year 2022: Sam Kerr profile

The age of the country is 29

The position of the club is forward.

The 29-year-old helped her team win the FA Cup and the Women's Super League in the same year.

She collected her second Golden Boot after scoring 20 goals in 20 games.

Kerr scored a goal against Manchester United on the final day of the season to win the Football Writers' Association Women's Footballer of the year award.

Kerr became Australia's all-time top scorer in January when she surpassed Tim Cahill's record.

Beth Mead

BBC Women's Footballer of the Year 2022: Beth Mead profile

The country is England and the caps are 47.

The position of the club is forward.

After a disappointing campaign for both club and country in 2020-21, which ended with her being left out of the team for the Tokyo Olympics, Beth Mead bounced back with a bang last season.

In a season in which the club narrowly missed out on the title, Mead was voted the player of the year.

As the Lionesses won their first major tournament, the winger became a household name, winning the Golden Boot and Player of the Tournament.

Alexandra Popp

The age of the country is 31

The club has a forward position.

The year has not been easy for Popp.

She came back for her club side just before the end of the domestic season after missing most of the season with a serious knee injury.

After starting on the bench, she was soon in the starting line-up and looking forward to her best.

She scored six of Germany's 13 goals, but missed out on the Golden Boot because of her teammates.

She had to pull out of the final just minutes before it was due to start because of an injury, and her side eventually lost.

Alexia Putellas

BBC Women's Footballer of the Year 2022: Alexia Putellas profile

Spain caps are 100.

The position of the club is Midfielder.

There were many highs and lows for the winner of the Ballon d'Or last season.

Barcelona won the Spanish league for the third season in a row with the help of captain Lionel Messi. Putellas scored 18 goals and registered 15 assists as her team won all 30 matches.

She played and scored in front of a record-breaking crowd of more than 90, 000 fans in the quarter- and semi-finals of the European club competition. Lyon beat the Catalan club in the final to win the European crown for the second year in a row.

On the eve of Euro 2022, Putellas was ruled out of the tournament due to a knee injury, as Spain were knocked out by England in the quarter-finals.

Wendie Renard

BBC Women's Footballer of the Year 2022: Wendie Renard profile

France's caps are 136.

Lyon is a club that has a defender position.

As the French side reclaimed the European and domestic crowns they had lost in 2020-21, Renard was crucial to their success.

The Lyon captain returned better than ever from an early season injury to continue her trophy-laden spell at the club.

In April, the centre-back became the first player to make 100 Women's Champions League appearances, another milestone for a player who also features in the all-time top 15 players for goals scored and has now appeared in more finals of Europe's elite club competition than any other player

Renard signed a new four-year deal at Lyon in May after scoring in both legs of the semi-finals against Paris St-Germain.

She was a key player in France's run to the last four of Euro 2022, their best ever performance.
