Severino not thrilled with Boone after being pulled from no-no through 7 (0:31)

Luis Severino shakes his head as he is told he has to leave the game. There is a 0:31

ARLINGTON, Texas -- New York Yankees starter Luis Severino was in full ace form at Globe Life Field on Monday night.

In the Yankees' win over the Texas Rangers, Severino threw 94 pitches and struck out seven.

The first batter that Castro struck out was the Rangers designated hitter. Third baseman Josh Jung lined a 98 mph pitch over the head of infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa for the first hit of the evening.

The Rangers scored their first run off Castro on a ground out.

The manager of the New York Yankees had an extended conversation with his pitcher after he struck out the final batter of the game. The broadcast cameras showed a man telling a man that he couldn't continue.

In the end, you can't do anything about it, because I was trying to fight him. He asked me what I thought. I said I would return. The idea of pushing it to 115 pitches was not a good one.

If he was through eight frames, the decision would have been made. I wanted to go more than 90 pitches with him. No matter what, I was going to let him finish that seventhinning. I told him that I wasn't going to take him to 120, 125, 130 pitches because he wanted to stay in. It would have had to go to that place to finish it.

After coming off the 60-day IL with a low grade right lat strain, this was the third start for Severino. The Yankees transferred him to the 60-day IL in the beginning of August after initially placing him on the 15-day IL.

"I wanted to keep going, I wanted to keep going," he said. It was the best decision because I am coming off an injury.

If Monday's performance is any indication, he could be the Yankees' second baseman in the playoffs.

Kyle Higashioka said that that was the best times he had ever seen him throw. I'm pretty sure he would have gotten that no-hitter if he'd been able to go nine.

The veteran right-handed pitcher improved his record to 3-7 by throwing 63 strikes against the Rangers.

It puts a damper on the night, honestly. It's not enjoyable to have to do. It's not fun to have to be the one that shuts that down because he's out there doing his job at a really high and special level.

The performance stole the show from Judge, who went 1-for-4. If Judge hits his 62nd home run of the season, it will set an American League single-season record and make him the Yankees' all-time home run leader.

The New York Yankees had a no-hitter in the same stadium last year. The Rangers were no-hit by the Indians in a 2-0 victory. The Cleveland Indians pitcher is now a pitcher for the Tampa BayRays.

Sevy wasn't shying away from everyone. Kiner-Falefa said that he was himself. I looked up and saw that we had to make some plays. He wasn't standing still. It's really exciting to see Sevy doing what he's doing, given where we're going.

The Yankees hit two homers in their victory. It was his 30th of the year.
