The conditions at the DC jail are so bad that the defendants would rather be sent to Gitmo.
The group of 34 January 6 prisoners petitioned the court on Friday for a transfer to the notorious Gitmo Bay prison in Cuba, which they claim provides topnotch medical care and is respectful of religious requirements.
The January 6 attack on the US Capitol by supporters of former President Donald Trump who wanted to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election has led to charges against many people.
The US established a military prison in Cuba. There were reports of torture, sexual abuse, and illegal detention at the facility. Democratic lawmakers in recent years have intensified their calls to close the facility because fewer than 40 people are still there.
The co-signers of Friday's letter suggested that the military prison with a reputation for misery would be a step up from their current residence.

In a seven-page letter the group of pre-Trial Detained described the facility as an "abomination to the law and it's nation government" where the "woeful captives are all but slowly murdered in every way except for."
Several standard injustice levied against the American prison industry include inadequate meals and facilities, limited access to legal services, and name-calling from the guards. The defendants complain about vaccine requirements, the presence of critical race theory propaganda, and staff wearing Democrat attire.

The handwritten note that was signed by one of the rioters was included in the exhibit.
Half of the inmates at the jail were removed due to the inhumane environment after an inspection by the US marshals service.
They claim that the jail is an "evisceration facility" and that prisoners are begging for help. Worms are found in salad and prisoners have lost hair and vision because of their lack of nutrition.
According to their letter, members of congress have been denied entry. They claim they are political prisoners who have been unfairly imprisoned.
