You might have noticed that extracts from your existing library seems to be a trend lately. The tool for doing that is called Serato Stems. While the final product is slated for a release later this year in both DJ Pro lite 3.0 and DJ Pro 3.0, existing users can test drive it with the public alpha that is available now. Users can help improve the final result by giving feedback on the upcoming release.

Stem-isolating tools like those offered by Serato DJ allow you to separate vocal, melody, bass and drums from the rest of the track. The effects include a vocal echo, instrumental echo, and drums echo. You can assign these to the performance pads on the controllers, or you can access them directly in the desktop app. As you use the tools, you will see a grayed out portion of the waveform.

It is ideal for users with an M1 or M2 Mac. Select files can be pre-analyzed by placing them in a "Stems" folder in the sidebar. It will take care of the heavy lifting so you don't have to worry about analyzing tracks during a live set.

The company did not use artificial intelligence for their results. The audio separation was handled by its own method. The results are promising after a brief test of the new features. They do vary depending on the tracks you're using, but even on muddled tracks the quality of isolated segments sounds good and any sound leaking for the various channels seems minimal

The feature is easy to use. Stem isolation and the related effects open up lots of creative opportunities. There will be more information about this feature when it is launched. The public version of the company's website is for current users.
