Tony La Russa won't be managing the White Socks.

He is stepping down because of health issues.

The statement was shared by James Fegan of The Athletic. The length of the treatment and recovery process for this second health issue makes it impossible for me to be the White Socks manager in the year 2023.

The WhiteSox are one of the most disappointing teams in the league this season, with a 78-80 record.

Even though he has been away from the team, La Russa still called the record unacceptable. The team announced on Sept. 24 that the manager wouldn't be coming back this season.

According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, La Russa's doctors told him not to come back after the surgery.

La Russa's last year on his contract was in the year of the campaign, so this could be his last one.

Three World Series crowns, six pennants and four Manager of the Year awards are among the accomplishments of his Baseball Hall of Fame resume. He led the Oakland A's from 1986 to 1995 and the St. LouisCardinals from 1996 to 2011.

The Florida native returned to the White Sox managerial role ahead of the 2020 season and led them to a 93-69 record and the American League Central title. Even though the Cubs lost to the Astros in the division series, the expectation was that they would win the whole thing.

The fans blamed La Russa a number of times for the team's poor performance. He said in his statement that he has not been upset or disappointed with the White Socks fans. They are passionate about our team and want to win.

While La Russa's second stint with Chicago didn't go as planned, he is still a Hall of Famer and will focus on his health in the years to come.
