The Miami Dolphins have ruled Tua Tagovailoa out for the New York Jets game.
It's too early to give a definite timetable for when Tagovailoa will be able to return from the concussion he suffered last Thursday night, according to the coach.
A source said that Tagovailoa was at the Dolphins' facility on Monday.
Sources told Adam that he will be interviewed early this week in the investigation of his return to the game against the Bills.
Modifications to the concussion protocol are needed to enhance player safety, according to the league and players association.
The results of the investigation will be announced almost immediately after, according to a league official.
After a hit to his head late in the first half of Miami's Week 3 home game against Buffalo, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa appeared to have a concussion, but he was cleared to return in the second half. Tagovailoa's legs were wobbly because of a back injury.
After the Thursday hit in which Josh Tupou slammed Tagovailoa backwards into the turf, the quarterback's hands froze up and his fingers flexed awkwardly in front of his face mask, as he lay on the ground. He was taken away on a stretcher and sent to a hospital after he stayed on the ground for a while. He was released from the hospital and went back to work with the Dolphins.
The league and the union said in a statement that they expect to make changes to the protocol in the coming days based on what has been learned so far in the review process. According to sources, the consultant made mistakes in his evaluation of Tagovailoa and that's why he was fired.
After replacing Tagovailoa in the Week 4 loss to theBengals, Teddy Bridgewater will start against the Jets.
