The Will Smith-led movie will be released in theaters and on streaming in December, after initial reports that Apple would delay the film until next year since Smith was banned from attending the Academy Awards for 10 years for hitting Chris Rock.
The movie will be available to watch on Apple TV+ on December 9.
Sources told the New York Times last month that Apple was still talking about a late 2022.
Smith plays an enslaved man who joined the Union Army during the Civil War. The film had a $120 million budget and was expected to be a potential Oscar contender until Smith and Rock got into a fight over a joke Rock made about Smith's wife. Smith can still be nominated for an award even though he won't be going to the Oscars for a decade. It is not known if Smith will be submitted and marketed for another Best actor award since he cannot be present to accept it, or if members of the Academy will vote for him to receive it. The movies that are expected to get awards consideration are usually released at the end of the year. Smith won an Oscar this year for his work in King Richard. He was nominated for two other times.
