It's not clear if the change is part of a limited test or if the company is thinking about capping free users to a certain resolution. The story was not commented on by the search engine.
The company has tried many methods to get free users to pay. They were shown up to 11 unskippable ads before the start of the video to give them an interruption.
The 50 million subscriber mark was reached by the company last year. In the US, the price of these subscriptions varies from region to region.
